Python - Software Development Training for Cheminformatics
General information
These hands-on courses are designed for working computational chemists who want to improve their software effectiveness. All examples are drawn from cheminformatics. For more information about the course content see http://dalkescientific.com/training/ or please contact the trainer (training@dalkescientific.com) directly.
Class size is limited to 8 people. You are welcome to bring your own laptop or use one of our workstations. Both course parts can be booked separately or together (with some discount).

Part 1 - Python programming
This intense two day course covers the basics of how to use Python. The first day covers the core Python language and OEChem. The second day covers essential libraries for calling out to command-line programs, handling CSV files, making plots, and more. Attendees must have some programming experience (know how to use variables, for-loops and if-statements, and experience with text editors and the command-line)
Part 2 - Web Application Development with Django
This three day course walks through two real-world examples based on the Django web application framework: an interactive descriptor calculator and a PubChem database search system. Participants will learn how to work with forms, embed chemical structures, do substructure and similarity searches in a SQL database, develop data models and templates, and work with the jQuery Javascript library.
